As the old adage goes, if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. There has been a theme popping up in my life lately over and over again. That theme is persistence. I was recently at a brand event at North Central College in Naperville and entrepreneur after entrepreneur got up on the stage and talked about persistence and determination being the key to their success. Some of them pointed out that it’s not the best idea that wins or even the first mover. In fact, the first one out frequently is not the one that succeeds, think Tevo or really early Apple computers.
The one who succeeds is the one who wants it the most. It’s the one who never gives up. Nothing worthwhile in life comes easy. If it does, it’s beginners luck just as Paulo Coelho says in The Alchemist. We have to work for the things that we want in life. In fact, we have to work hard. It takes effort to make change in the world. Setbacks and disappointments are a given, they are how we learn. What is important is that you keep showing up, each and every day. I love the saying that what is important is to keep getting up. If you fall seven times, to get back up eight times.
I have found this to be so true in my life. So with the simple blog I leave you with this… The key to success is determination and persistence. This is why it’s so important to be passionate about what we are doing as it can be too easy to give up if we are not. So next time you have a setback, next time something doesn’t go your way, I invite you to reach in to your determination. I invite you to get back up and try again. I invite you to persist! As Wayne Gretzky says, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”.
